What to study for CAT?
Common Admission Test (CAT) is a national level entrance exam held for admission into management courses (MBA) offered by various government and private colleges across the country.

The exam is conducted annually by the consortium of Indian Institute of Management (IIM) on a rotational basis. CAT 2017 is also scheduled to be held in the month of December 2017. It is important to know about CAT Exam before digging deep into the syllabus.

What is CAT?

As mentioned earlier, CAT is conducted annually in online mode each year in the month of December. The exam basically comprises questions from areas like Quantitative Aptitude, Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning and Verbal and Reading comprehension in the written test.

The exam will be a three-hour computer based objective type test. CAT Syllabus is not pre-defined, however, it is generally of the difficulty level of 10+2 standard.

Important dates

It is a must for candidates to know about the schedule of the exam process in advance. This would help them in keeping pace with any update related to the exam as well as planning their studies for the exam.

CAT Syllabus

CAT Syllabus is divided into three heads namely Quantitative Aptitude, Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning and Verbal and Reading Comprehension. Although the difficulty level of questions is that of 10+2 standards, however, it is impertinent to be acquainted with each topic and sub-topic. The syllabus has been given below for each section in detail:

Quantitative Aptitude

The syllabus of this section is designed to test the numerical ability and mathematical conceptuality of the candidate. Following topics are covered under this head of the syllabus:

3)Ratio and Proportion
7)Age Calculation
8)Time, work and distance
9)Quadratic equations
10)Permutation and combination
11)Sequence and series
12)Theory of equations
13)Angels, lines, triangles, and circles

All these topics make a bulk of the 34 questions from Quantitative Aptitude part that is asked in the exam.

Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning

This section comprises 32 questions in the written exam and tests candidates for their computational and analytical skills. It is one of the scoring sections of the paper where candidates garner good marks.

Verbal and reading comprehension

The section is designed to test the vocabulary, reading, Comprehension, and grammatical knowledge of the candidate. It comprises of 34 questions in the written exam.

The topics included under this section of the paper are as follows:

3)Cloze Passage
4)Jumbled Sentences
5)Analogies and reverse analogies
6)Summary based questions
8)Reading of passages
