Ramesh Chennithala requests RBI Governor to redress issue of note shortage

(Thiruvananthapuram, Apr, 13,2017):Opposition leader in the Kerala assembly Ramesh Chennithala today requested the Reserve Bank of India to take steps to resolve the currency shortage being faced in ATM’s and treasuries in the state.

Chennithala, in a letter to RBI Governor Dr Urjit Patel, said many government treasuries and ATMs in Kerala were facing a currency crunch even after RBI lifted the limit imposed on cash withdrawals.

“The situation is very serious, even worse than post demonetisation months’, he said.

“Many treasuries have not been provided with adequate currencies, as required by them to disburse the salary as well as pension claims of the state Government employees and pensioners,” he said, adding cash shortage has affected the disbursement of welfare pensions.

The Kerala government had stated yesterday that state treasuries were facing a currency shortage and sought the intervention of authorities concerned to solve the note crunch.
