CAT 2018: Registration extended to Sept 26; Admit card to Release on Oct 24
CAT is one of the most sought after exam in the country for candidates possessing a Bachelor’s degree. The exam gives admit to the candidates in most of the reputed B-schools of the country, including the much coveted IIMs. The CAT 2018 exam is scheduled to be held on November 25 and will be conducted by IIM-Calcutta.

Candidates who are seeking admission in the 2-year MBA or PGDM course can fill the CAT application form online by September 26, failing which no admission will be granted. Further, CAT Admit Cards will be released on October 24.

Filling the CAT 2018 form is a six step process with each step opening up as you complete the preceding one. The six sections include registration, application form and document uploading, academic detail, work experience details, program and institute preference, test centre details and fee payment. Candidates need to fill the form with utmost precision especially while filling marks because once the form gets saved, there will be no scope of improvement.

While entering work experience details one needs to calculate the number of months of experience as on July 31, 2018. A candidate must only enter the details of professional experience. No internship or pre-graduation experience will be counted as work experience.

When a candidate reaches the program selection area, he must choose the IIM courses as per his wish and eligibility. Usually PGP, PGP-EX, FPM, EPGPEX are the four programs displayed in the arena. While PGP and PGDM do not require any prior work experience, the other programs work well only for the candidates possessing a rich work experience.

Following the program selection, a candidate needs to select the test centre as per his preference. CAT is conducted at 147 centers across the country and a candidate can select a maximum of 4 centers as per his preference. Interview city selection is also supposed to be done at the same time.

The last step of the form is fee payment. The application fee for general candidates is INR 1900 whereas candidates from reserved categories have to pay INR 950 in order to apply for CAT 2018. Once the payment is done, no further changes can be made in the application form. So it is advisable to review the application form once before paying the application fee.

One thing that needs to be kept a note of is that for all the non-IIM institutes, separate college form needs to be filled in addition to CAT in order to secure an admission in these colleges. So a candidate needs to keep a note of the last dates to fill the forms of the colleges they wish to seek admission in.

With only 2 months to go for CAT, students must gear up their studies and take the final plunge in their preparation. From revising the concepts to sitting for mock examinations and analyzing it, everything should be done properly so that no stone is left unturned in the preparation.

After the CAT exam is over, the GD-WAT-PI session will follow post the announcement of results. Every college will give separate weightage to the different parameters on which it evaluates a candidate’s profile and performance.

After the final selection, admission offers will be rolled out to the candidates who have been selected and the academic year will commence from June 2019.
