'Kasaba' controversy: 'Odiyan' director backs Mammootty

(Kottayam, Dec 30, 2017, DG): Film Maker Sreekumar Menon on Saturday extended support to actor Mammootty who has been the target of critics ever since the controversy involving actress Parvathy broke out.

"Let Mammootty concentrate on his acting career. The misogynistic dialogue in 'Kasaba' wasn't mouthed by Mammootty. It was the character named Rajan Scaria who said it. Characterizations have both good and evil in them since ancient times. Nobody hated actresses like Sukumari or Meena for playing those evil mother-in-laws in old movies", he wrote in a Facebook post.

Earlier, actress Par had spoken publicly against the misogyny portrayed in Mammootty starrer 'Kasaba'. Following this, cyber users, claiming to be fans of actor Mammootty, started posting derogatory messages about the actress in Facebook.

Last day, actor Mammootty had said that freedom of opinion is as important as freedom of expression. "I had called her and extended my support when the cyber bullying grew intense", he added.
