11 Indian workers dead in Saudi fire mishap
 
(Riyad,July 13, 2017): Eleven Indian workers died in a fire that broke out at their accommodation in Najran in Saudi Arabia in the early hours of Wednesday. The workers were in deep sleep when the incident occurred which was reported by patrolling police to civil defense that rushed immediately to the spot.

Six other workers were also injured and five of them are said to be critical, sources said. It was not clear whether some of the victims hailed from Telangana State and Andhra Pradesh.

Prince Jalawi bin Abdulaziz, governor of Najran has ordered a probe into the fire mishap and constituted an official committee to enquire into the incident.

The blaze broke out at 4 AM on Wednesday and was spotted by patrolling police teams and reported to civil defense.

Saudi civil defense has said the death occured mainly due to suffocation.

The victims, all workers of a construction company, were living in accommodation in nearby gold market area in Faisaliah district. The fire broke out due to short circuit in an old air conditioning unit, according to preliminary information.

It is believed that all dead were from different States of India. Four of hte six injured are also from India.

After receiving the information, Indian consul general Md. Noor Rahman Sheikh dispatched official team to assist the victims.
